July In The Phoenix
- During the month of July the Phoenix held their annual summer camp! This attracted 12 young people for the whole week with activities such as soccer, rounder’s, arts and crafts, cooking and much much more taking place. It was a very successful week and the staff would like to thank all the young people for their enthusiasm throughout the week.
- The Phoenix hosted the second annual WAKEATHON on the 29th of July. An action packed evening was had by both staff and young people alike!
- Integration is important to us; i.e. the Knitting group, mixing young and old and also the participants in the Brothers of Charity who play pool and soccer with the younger people attending the centre. The diverse nature of the participants attending the centre; including different ethnic backgrounds can be seen as both a positive and educational influence on all participants.

RAD Springr activities
The manager of Super Valu presents a cheque to RAD Members who took part in the recent bag pack to raise funds for YWI.

In May, RAD members built on their community relations with the Guards. This resulted in the young people and staff having a day on the river Shannon with the Garda Water Unit. The young people got the opportunity to gain an insight into sub-aqua diving and the mechanics of the diving equipment and speed boat as well as interaction with the Guards on an informal basis. Staff and members each got an opportunity to drive the speed boat which resulted in all having a great day despite the bruises.
March saw a chage in the young men’s group. As part of the initiation of the new Youth Justice worker Caroline Winters to the group the team selected to go paint-balling and invited some of the young ladies from the RAD project.
This activity was chosen in order to facilitate the young people in acceptance of change, problem solving, communication skills, and team work.

Visit to Poland |
|
In early October 2007, Roscommon Youth Information managers Nicola Moran and Sinead Fallon travelled to Poland as part of a Eurodesk 4 day study visit. The objectives were to meet Polish youth workers who presented the information available to Polish young people when preparing to travel abroad for work or study, and understand some of the issues facing Polish young people. Nicola and Sinead, along with a group of other Irsih youth information workers from Galway, Donegal, Dublin and Cork along with eurodesk co-ordinator Malgorzata Fiedot visited Lublin, Kielce and Kracow. It was an enlightening and educational visit, with contacts made between Polish and Irish youth Information workers. Poland is a beautiful country,in particular the cities visited had many beautiful old town centres and interesting buildings. In many ways, Poland's current economic situation mirrors recent Irish past and the experience of educated and trained young people leaving their home country to seek work opportunities abroad. Understanding this leaves us with the role of welcoming foreign nationals and assisting them with their information needs and integration into our local communities.
Roscommon Youth Information Centre is a Eurodesk relay. Eurodesk is a free information service providing young people and those who work with them with information on EU funding and opportunities to work, study, volunteer and travel in Europe
